WHAT IS SUPIMA®

The SUPIMA® trademark assures consumers that the textile product they are purchasing contains Pima cotton grown in the United States. By licensing the entire supply chain (yes, the entire supply chain), SUPIMA® provides customers with additional assurance that SUPIMA® trademarked products are made with 100 percent U.S. Pima cotton.

Only SUPIMA® licensees are permitted to utilize the SUPIMA® Hang tag. Using the SUPIMA® trademark adds value to a brand, as it signifies an association with the highest quality apparel. In order to preserve the premium nature of the trademark, the SUPIMA® license cannot be transferred. This enables SUPIMA® to monitor the use of its trademark throughout the supply chain and to control the quality and integrity of products bearing its name.

It was essential for us to use SUPIMA® cotton when constructing our business, as it demonstrates our commitment to providing our customers with sustainable, high-quality products. Producing clothing in an eco-friendly manner should not be an option or an afterthought; it should be at the forefront of one's production standards.

The Fabric

As a premium, extra-long staple cotton, great care is taken to preserve the fiber’s premium qualities. This is particularly evident during the ginning process, when the seed is removed from the fiber. All Supima cotton is ginned on “roller gins' ' that operate at much lower speeds in order to gently separate the fiber from the seed. In contrast, regular cotton is processed by high-speed “saw gins” which use a more aggressive system to break the fiber away from the seed.

HOW DO I KNOW ITS SUPIMA®

Oritain uses a peer-reviewed methodology to analyze trace elements and isotopes to determine a product's origin. These trace elements and isotopes, which are unique to their environments and regions, are absorbed by the cotton fiber. By sampling the cotton over the entire producing region, Oritain has created an origin database that samples can be checked against. This is one way SUPIMA® Cotton has certified traceability.
